News - Scarecrow

Heather Scarecrow Festival returned for 2022 to delight fans young and old, and provided a fabulous day out for one and all. The village of Heather once again pulled together to put on another amazing festival with residents, pubs and schools displaying their exceedingly creative and inventive scarecrows.

HSSP are a proud sponsor of the festival and our own scarecrow “Woody Planter-Tree” joined the trail.

The winners are chosen by the visiting public, and with all ballots counted, the festival have announced the winners for the top 15 places. It sees a real cross section of styles; the top 5 includes a scarecrow with his amusing side kick crows, Crowmer Simpson, We don’t talk about Brunocrow, a Top Dog jubilee corgi and a Eurcrowvision Song Contest singer belting out a tune! All 15 are fantastic and well deserved winners.

This year we were highly honoured to also be asked to judge The Di Everett Award 2022 for the ‘Most Humorous’ scarecrow. So our Ros, with clipboard and camera in hand, set off on his wonderful mission. With 76 scarecrows to choose from, finding the most humorous was always going to be an enjoyable challenge. Having had such a fun time going around, she chose Number 59 – The Crow Bar.

Ros commented ‘This one has so many funny activities going on, so much attention to detail and gave off a real party vibe – I could tell the bar was rocking and the crows were having a fabulous time! I also did have a good laugh when I saw it.’

Huge congratulations to all the winners and a well done and thank you to everyone who has been involved. A lot of behind the scenes hard work has been put in by the organisers and the makers of the scarecrows to create such a nice day out and to also fundraise to benefit the local community.

If you did not get chance to go this year, make a date in your diary to go next year. We are already thinking about our scarecrow for 2023……
